Our Story In the mid-sixties, a small visionary group of young families shared the desire to plant an Evangelical Free Church in Yorba Linda, California. The church grew up in the midst of the baby boom and the creation of suburban culture. Professionals began to move their families to Southern California and, as they migrated out of the city, EFCYL began to spiritually influence the community. The area's affluence and relaxed atmosphere, combined with the needs of growing families, created a church community whose chief value was providing a place where believers could find a home and care for one another. The physical structures were built by this community and it grew to include 250 families. The cultural pace and demographic changed, which significantly affected EFCYL in the late 1980's and early 1990's. From 1992 to 2003, the world and Southern California culture (including a thriving Orange County worship culture) were experiencing a number of dramatic changes, and as a reflection of its community, EFCYL faced those same adjustments. The experience saw two Senior Pastors come and go, both resulting in church-wide professional and personal self-analysis. After a time of intense personal reflection, EFCYL emerged as a renewed and rejuvenated congregation under the name Richfield Community Church. Having been transformed by the process, Richfield Community Church (RCC) is currently best described as EFCYL-reborn. The new church community, very much rooted in the learning of its first 40 years, is pressing onward with new vision, new values, and a renewed mission to serve its community. |
